Kinoki takes GIFAS on a virtual tour of the Paris Air Show
Every two years since 2013, Kinoki has been producing the world's largest virtual tour of the Salon International de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, one of the sector's biggest events, on behalf of GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales). The project, commissioned by the show's technical director and his teams, is an essential tool for post-event management and review.
This virtual tour, which covers the 53-hectare show grounds, is much more than a simple visual representation. Used daily by GIFAS teams, it enables them to revisit every stand, every installation, and zoom in on every detail with exceptional precision. Each edition is marked by intense collaboration, to ensure the most faithful reproduction possible of the event.
One of the most impressive aspects of this project is the millimetric precision of the image geolocation. Thanks to GNSS/RTK technology, the coordinates of every point are captured with unrivalled accuracy, ensuring that every stand and installation is perfectly represented in its actual position. This allows users to navigate the tour with a sense of fluidity and reality.
To deliver the ultimate immersive experience, we used a FLIR camera capable of capturing 12K images, ensuring exceptional image quality. This level of resolution makes it possible to zoom in on every element of the show while maintaining incredible sharpness, whether on the small details of a stand or the vast outdoor spaces.
The tour was developed using open-source technologies, and the experience is accessible on all devices, whether desktop, tablet or smartphone. Virtual visitors can explore every corner of the show as if they were there, whether at home or on the move.
To minimize the impact on participants and guarantee full access to the demonstration and exhibition areas, the hall filming was carried out at night, between 10pm and 3am. This strategic choice enabled us to capture the entire venue, without interrupting show activities.
For more than a decade, we've been renewing this collaboration at each edition of the Paris Air Show, a testament to the confidence GIFAS and its technical director have placed in us for the realization of this key project.
Thanks to our expertise in immersive technologies, we ensure that every edition of the show benefits from a world-class virtual tour, meeting the highest standards of precision and quality.
